Crushed and dried Galangal Root (also known as aromatic ginger) from Shan State in Myanmar. The taste is warm, sharp and spicy, and resembles ginger, but is milder and with notes of citrus, cardamom and pepper. Galangal root is closely related to ginger.
Used particularly in Southeast Asian cuisine (Thai, Indonesian) for soups, curries and wok dishes. Can also be used as an herbal tea.
Grown without pesticides and artificial fertilizers (certified in Myanmar) in the hilly, isolated and conflict-affected areas of Hopong and Hsihseng in Shan State by small-scale farms, run by women and men, with support from the Myanmar Institute for Integrated Development and the Danish organization ADDA.
