Freekeh from Palestine
- In stock, ready to ship
- Inventory on the way
Freekeh originates in the Middle East and is made from durum wheat harvested early while the grains are still green and tender, then dried, cracked and roasted. Because it is harvested early, the grains contain more vitamins, minerals and protein than regular grains and quinoa. Freekeh is also high in fibre and helps you feel full. And it tastes really good.
Preparation: Use 1 part freekeh to 2 parts water and simmer with a little salt for 45 minutes.
We import freekeh from Taybeh Brewing Co., which buys from an agricultural cooperative in the city of Jenin in the West Bank. They produce authentic freekeh using traditional methods. Production provides work and income for both women and men.
Taybeh is an internationally recognised company, established in the West Bank in 1994.
The company is run by a Christian Palestinian family and has become a symbol of cooperation, respect and peaceful coexistence between religions in a troubled region.
